This events launches a major new collection by one of the UK’s best-respected poets. In Windrush Songs, James Berry remembers the first wave of Caribbean emigrants who sailed to Britain in 1940s. Berry explores the resonances between these voyages and the journeys of slave ships bringing ancestors from Africa to the New World, and in doing so gives voice to people of several generations.
