At the event a talented group of local writers aged 15-21 share a stage with leading poets Jean ’Binta’ Breeze MBE, Mark Gwynne Jones and Sureshot and all offer their own personal take on the theme of Pride and Prejudice. This show offers playful, witty, soulful and provocative responses to the Jane Austen novel and the book’s central themes in its bicentenary year.

It is part of a new intergenerational project for local elders groups and young writers to engage them in literature and sharing stories.

Developed by Renaissance One in partnership with Writing Yorkshire, in collaboration with University of Sheffield Students’ Union.

Matthew Clegg launches his first full-length poetry collection, West North East (Longbarrow Press). The event will explore the dynamic design of the book in a specially devised presentation featuring guest readers Angelina Ayers, Andrew Hirst, Helen Mort, Fay Musselwhite and Karl Riordan and ambient soundscapes by Brian Lewis. Together, the readers will create a fugue of voices that brings out the modulations of pitch, tone and register; the tensions and relationships between worlds and predicaments.

Berlin-based translator and poet Alistair Noon will present a selection of poems from his recent Longbarrow Press pamphlets Across the Water and Swamp Area (and Earth Records, his first full-length collection from Nine Arches).

Matthew Clegg will be reading new and unpublished work from his sequences The Navigators and Chinese Lanterns. The two poets have devised an evening of journeys; from the urban waterways of South Yorkshire to the rivers, lakes and seas of Central Europe (and further afield), accompanied by Li Po, Coleridge, Mao and others. Join them on a unique and memorable passage.

HEBDEN BRIDGE: Víctor Rodríguez Nuñez

Víctor Rodríguez Nuñez is reading at The White Lion Hotel in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire

Accompanied by his wife and translator, Katherine Hedeen, Victor is over for just a few days in March and Arc Publications are hosting an informal reading and 'in conversation'.

He has described his search for a poetry that is "... participatory yet not political ... communicative yet not explicit... Cuban yet not essentially nationalistic..." This sentiment is evident in the lightfooted dance his poems weave between countries, people, music and silence.

A hugely charismatic reader of his work, Victor is also a thoughtful and lively communicator. This promises to be a wonderful evening and we hope you can join us. It is a free event.
