TONGUE IN CHIC proudly present THE MIDLANDS POETRY SLAM.
• Qualifying event for Farrago UK Slam Championship
• HOST: MARK NIEL
• Headline act: The Antipoet
A call to find a Midlands Poet to take on the best of the UK has gone out. Tongue in Chic, the Milton Keynes-based Spoken Word organisation hosts the Midlands Poetry Slam. The winner will not only be crowned the Midlands Slam Champion but will go on to represent the region in the UK Slam Championships in London later in the year. Founder of Tongue in Chic and host for the evening, Mark Niel is looking forward to the event.
“ Poetry is enjoying a surge of popularity at festival and gigs across the country. Slams in particular are vibrant, lively events where the crowd is really involved. I’m hoping a strong, unique Midlands voice will emerge as the winner to represent the region at the UK final in London”.
Mark is no stranger to the Slam scene as he has won a dozen or so including the Camden Crawl, Ledbury Poetry Festival and the Bilston Big Love Slam. Mark will be performing on the night as well as acting as MC. His growing reputation as a performance poet has taken him from Open Mics to headline guest in a remarkably short space of time. He has appeared at the Cheltenham Literature Festival and will be appearing at the MAC in Birmingham on 9th December as part of the Apples and Snakes “Public Address” tour.
Poets who would like to enter the Midlands Slam or get more details should email Mark at mark@akickinthearts.co.uk or call him on 07968 845187. If there are spaces left you will be able to sign up on the night, however your participation will not be guaranteed. The UK Slam Championship takes place on Saturday 27th November, 2010 in London and is run by Farrago.
