Hammer and Tongue Open Poetry Slam, with Simon Munnery aka. Alan
Parker, Urban Warrior and special guests.
Hammer and Tongue's April gig features one of the UK's very best
performers and comedians, the excellent Simon Munnery. Part of the
original Comedy Zone line-up at Edinburgh, with Stewart Lee, Mark
Lamarr and Chris and George, Munnery
carved an anarchistic vein into the minds of radio-listeners around
the country in his incarnation as Alan Parker, Urban Warrior. A Sony
Gold Award winner for radio comedy, Munnery is a marvel, come and
enjoy. Special guest TBC.
We are also gearing up for the Hammer and Tongue London slam final in
May which will elevate the winner to international fame and stardom.
To win a place in the final, which will be happening this spring, you
need to SLAM! So dust off any rhymes which have been gathering moss at
the bottom of your notebooks, scrawl new ditties and come compete!
Hammer and Tongue's London slam champion and runners up will slam in
the UK-wide championships later this year.
Sign up on the door from 7.30pm to slam- first 8 get to slam. Slammers
get in for free. Turn up before 8 for free cake.

The Oxford Hammer and Tongue Slam Final
A final plug for this event which (I have on good authority) will probably be at the Vaults of St Mary the Virgin, Radcliffe Square, Oxford.
Tuesday, May 6th, 2008
8pm -11pm £5/£4
After a season of great events that has seen the first ever transatlantic live internet linked poetry slam and some of the worlds best performance poets at venues large and small throughout the city, we reach the climax of our poetry slam season: The Oxford Hammer & Tongue Slam Final.
By virtue of qualifying through open slams six budding stars have been invited to compete. They are Bohdan Piesecki, Pete the Temp, Jennie B, George Roberts, Julia Kiel and Tina Sederholm.
Vote for a wild card poet
In addition to this we are inviting you to nominate two wild card entrants. If there has been someone competing in a slam that you thought deserved to win who you want to see again email back with a name or any detail of their appearance/performance should your drunken memory have failed you once again (you muppet) and we will collate the results and give two more people the opportunity to take the big prize.
Special Guest
The guest artists for the final is Jem Rolls.Jem is one of the most accomplished performance poets in the world today. He has received more than 25 Five-star reviews and been heralded as a "Genius" (Montreal Gazette) in Canada where he now resides and plies his trade. He was the founder of Big Word in London and in Edinburgh and is responsible for taking performance poetry to The Edinburgh Fringe where he is known as "the godfather of Scottish performance poetry" (Scotland on Sunday).
Your DJ will be DJ Mystic your hosts the beautiful Sophia Blackwell and the even beautifuler Steve Larkin!
See you there.

A Message from Hammer & Tongue
Hello pop pickers,
Thank you to the hundreds of people who turned out for The John Hegley / Inflatable Buddha gig on Friday - I hope you enjoyed it as much as the Hammer & Tongue team did!
This Sunday sees an exciting event in the form of Slounge. The fine purveys of original live music extravaganzas Oxford Contemporary Music have teamed up with Hammer & Tongue to produce a multi-media event that promises to float the boat of even the most jaded gig goer. Music / art / poetry and organic food will be served up at everybodies favorite fair trade cafe The Vaults and Gardens (Radcliffe Square opposite the Radcliffe Camera).
On the bill is the much touted winsome folk-punk harpist Serafina Steer
"blurring cartoonish fantasy with kitchen-sink reality" (BBC) and if that's not enough a rare solo poetry performance from Inflatable Buddha frontman Steve Larkin "funny and biting, like a pump-action powerhouse on-stage" Edmonton Journal, Canada. There will also be short films from Oxford Film and Video Makers and a DJ.
This is the shape of things to come. The future is a multi-media. The future is slounge! Be there. Come for dinner for £12 from 7pm or come without dinner for £4 from 8pm.
That's all for now folks.
