We start before 8pm, when floor poets read. Anyone can, so bring a poem. After a break, the guest poet reads. At about 9.30pm, most of us retire to the Spread Eagle for drinks and discussion.
Jeffrey Wainwright was born in Stoke-on-Trent in 1944. He was educated at the University of Leeds and has taught in the University of Wales, in New York, and for many years at Manchester Metropolitan University, where he was Professor of English until 2008. He has translated French drama for the Royal Shakespeare Company and BBC Radio and been a theatre critic for the Independent. He is the author of Heart's Desire (1978), his Selected Poems (1985), The Red-Headed Pupil (1994), Out of the Air (1999) and Clarity or Death! (2008), all published by Carcanet.
Manky Poets is a continuation of South Manchester Poetry Group, and Manchester Poets, that have provided readings since 1978. It happens every month in Chorlton Library.
