Public Address brings some of the brightest rising stars of UK spoken word poetry to Birmingham for one date only: unmissable if you like your poetry live, powerful, and exciting.
Mike Edwards - a writer and performer from Stockton-on-Tees and member of Monkfish Word Tank, a multimedia spoken word collective. Mike is a regular performer of poetry and character comedy in the North East and beyond. He was a resident poet on My Place Or Yours, an interactive writers’ residency by Apples & Snakes.
Saran Green - a passionate performance poet, her numerous performance styles echoing her multi-cultural upbringing. She is an established performance poet on the Jamaican poetry scene and appeared as a guest poet at the University of the West Indies. She captivates her audience with her striking stage presence and vitality.www.myspace.com/sarangreenpoet

Hannah Silva - a writer and performer whose distinctive style combines the physicality of theatre with energetic, fast-paced poetry. She composes speech, choreographs language and exploits 'double tonguing' to create a unique form of spoken word performance.www.hannahsilva.co.uk
Matt Windle - is a boxer and poet! Formerly a sprinter, he was the Birmingham and Midlands champion for both the 100m and 2000m. In 2007/08 he was Birmingham’s young Poet Laureate and is the face of the new Birmingham Library. www.mattwindlepoetry.co.uk
LEWES: Needlewriters
Needlemakers Café,
West Street,
Lewes
Poetry from Judith Kazantzis and Lee Harwood, and prose from Clare Best.
Clare Best is the author of Treasure Ground (HappenStance, 2009), a collection of poems written during a residency at Woodlands Organic Farm on the Lincolnshire fens. She is completing her first full collection, Spoil. Tonight she will be reading from her prose memoir (work in progress) – reflections on growing up in a family shaped by loss, ghosts and silence.
Judith Kazantzis, an award winning poet and Lewesian, tonight launches the reissue of one of her best praised books, The Odysseus Poems, finely republished by Waterloo Press. Hear Homer’s voices as never before, voices human and inhuman, divine and monstrous, lying, lustful, loving. Here is Skylla of the dog-headed tentacles, and her opposite, Penelope, mistress of the art of flirtatious weaving. And Numero Uno, Odysseus himself: laddish wanderer or victim of fate? Would Homer have approved? Yours to decide.
Lee Harwood lives by the sea in Brighton. His most recent books were Collected Poems (2004), Selected Poems (2008) and Not the full story - six interviews by Kelvin Corcoran (2008), all published by Shearsman Books.
If you plan to have supper at the Café, it’s probably a good idea to arrive in time to order and eat before the readings start.

Saturday, 4th December, 2010, 2pm
The Town Hall Theatre,
Courthouse Square,

Dogs Singing: A Tribute Anthology brings together poems which highlight and examine and celebrate the canine world, and our place in it.
"First love, enduring love; the witness, the stoic, the companion, the protector, the better part of us, the abiding presence, the warrior, the survivor, the guardian angel. Here is a big book of many poems, all inspired, devoted, motivated by a sacred bond that happens, the supreme privilege, that something far bigger than romance - a relationship with a dog. Dogs do sing; they also smile, socialise, engage and celebrate, mark a homecoming in proper style, even if it’s only the return from the local grocery store; they sigh, but most of all they understand, they grieve, they mourn, they empathise, they remember..." Eileen Battersby, Arts Writer & Literary Correspondent, The Irish Times
Royalties from the sale of this book go to the Soi Dog Foundation (Phuket, Thailand) and MADRA (Co. Galway, Ireland)
